An immunoelectron micrograph of muscle larvae

An immunoelectron micrograph of muscle larvae including the esophagus and surrounding tissues, which are immunostained with infected sera taken from Fischer rats 4weeks post infection with Trichinella spiralis, and secondary immunostained with anti rat IgG antibody (biotin tagged). The immunoreaction is visualised by the third reaction with avidin -gold complex.

    tissue muscle larvae
1 st antibody infected sera taken from Fischer rats
2nd antibody anti rat IgG antibody (biotin tagged)
visual marker colloidal gold (avidin tagged)

The esophagus occupying substance is negative by the immunostaining, this is sharp contrast to the results when the sera taken at 32 weeks post infection is used.
The esophagus surrounding tissues ( basal lamina, hemolymph) are positive.
This result suggest the antisrera taken in the early phase of infection doe not recognize antigens located in the esophagus occupying substance, but recognize antigens located in the esophagus surrounding tissues ( basal lamina, hemolymph).
